University Health System's safety net hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe are facing significant state budget reduction. This reduction will greatly impact the people most in need in our communities.
Over the past two years, under private ownership, these academic medical centers have attained a remarkable record of positive achievements in serving our community and meeting the intended public purpose of hospital privatization.
These hospitals are truly the last lifeline that some of the citizens most in need in our community have. To make that lifeline less available to them is an action no state should take.
There are no easy solutions, but we urge our legislators to make every effort to find a way to keep our safety net hospitals vital and accessible to the community.
